New South Wales is in the south-east part of Australia and is the most populous and heavily industrialised State in Australia, with a highly urbanised population.

New South Wales is located in the eastern part of Australia and is the home of Australia’s largest city, Sydney. The total area of the State is 802 000 square kilometres or 10.4 per cent of Australia’s total area, the national capital, Canberra, and the Australian Capital Territory also lie within the New South Wales borders.

New South Wales is a diverse area with mountainous areas such as the Blue Mountains and the Snowy Mountains.

New South Wales is Australia’s largest state economy, with 31% of the nation’s GDP. The next largest state, Victoria, contributes 22%.

With a population of more than 7.3 million, or close to one third of the Australian total, New South Wales has a large and growing domestic market.  Per capita GSP, at almost $65,000, was the second highest of all states in 2012-13.  In 2012-13, 33% of national household spending occurred in the State, totalling $277.5 billion.
